Our Harvest Show 2023 a great success

We held our Harvest Show on Saturday September 9th whichwas a great success both inside and outside the Hall. The Charity Plant Fair, ably run by Celia Evans and team raised almost £200 for the Beacon Church Kitchen.

Inside the Hall there was a growing sense of anticipation as exhibitors set out their produce ready for the judging at 10 am. Paintings, photographs, pot plants, preserves, flowers, fruit, vegetables and baked products all competed for attention and admiration.

Dahlias, Canna lilies and Hydrangeas drew the eye while roses provided perfume and the many edibles – the promise of good eating. The residents of Sidney Gale House received all the flowers after the show.

As Club Chairman I would like to thank the self-styled ‘Show Girls’ led by Anne Bark whose preparation and hard work resulted in such an enjoyable event. Many thanks also to Mayor Dave Bolwell for presenting all the cups.

The line up of cup winners are from left to right beyond Mayor Bolwell; Peter Rowley (Dahlias); Alan Finch (Cookery); Jan Gale & Susan Solomon (Art & Handicraft); David Fitzjohn (Photography); Kiera Roth (Fruit); Caspar Roth (Windchime – Under 8); Tim Gale (Best Photograph); Mark Read (Vegetables, 3 awards for Roses and overall winner), Ian Bark (Vegetables); Dee Trott (Pot plants, runner up to the overall winner); Hannah Jones (Floral Art); Margaret Barnes (Homecraft).
