Our annual Harvest Show on Saturday 13 September proved a great success, delighting visitors despite the challenges posed to Bridport’s gardeners this year by the long hot summer and recent strong winds and heavy rain.

The show offered plenty to admire both inside and outside the United Reformed Church, East Street. A Charity Plant Fair, run by Margaret Genender, Vivienne and Gordon Smith and Elizabeth Welch raised over £250 for the mental health and wellbeing charity, The Harmony Centre.

In the hall, visitors enjoyed a fine array of exhibits showcasing the community’s talents — from flowers, fruit and vegetables to baking, handicrafts, photography and art. While the summer’s hot weather had reduced the number of dahlias and roses, highlights included Gary Parson’s massive onions, Ian Bark’s brioche buns and the children’s creative junk model robots. David Fitzjohn excelled once again with his photographs. Visitors were also treated to cakes, tea and coffee organised by Heather Thomson and her team.

The show was honoured to welcome Edward Morello, MP for West Dorset who presented trophies and rosettes. Overall winner Keira Roth was recognised for her skill across flowers, fruit and vegetables, baking, jam making and handicrafts while runner-up Gary Parsons shone in the vegetables section.

Organisers praised the hard work of all who made the day possible, with special thanks to, Sue Baker, Anne Bark, Gill Fitzjohn and Anne West, for their dedication in ensuring another memorable event for the town.
