Morning and lunch: THE NEWT at Hadspen Manor – CANCELLED
The grounds of Hadspen Manor were reopened in 2018 after being completely remodelled with a high level of craftsmanship by its South African owners. It has a focus on the cider apple trees (500 varieties) and the potager garden complemented by contemporary fountains and buildings.
Previously the home of the notable garden writer Penelope Hobhouse and tenanted by Nori and Sandra Pope who developed an approach to garden design set out in their book ‘Colour by Design’ acknowledged in the current reincarnation of the garden.
Afternoon: OUDOLF FIELD at Durslade Farm
Piet Oudolf has designed some of the most widely acclaimed gardens of this century and is still designing in his 70s (so hope for us all). Opened in 2014 this wonderful example of his work showcases his masterly use of perennials and grasses. An inspiration.
