The gardens at Dartington are grade II* listed. A century ago the Victorian style was transformed into a more natural style by owners the Elmhirst family. They commissioned the acclaimed American garden designer Beatrix Farrand for the redesign. She was followed by Percy Cane, who worked on the gardens until the 1960s. The Elmhirsts also commissioned sculptures, such as Henry Moore’s Memorial Figure, and opened up vistas, creating a timeless quality of tranquillity and peace.  They boast ancient trees including the oldest living resident of the gardens, a 1500 year old yew tree, and a line of sweet chestnuts believed to be over 400 years old.

We have organised a tour of the gardens led by a volunteer for those interested.

Free entry for members of RHS on production of a valid card. Please advise when booking.
